“My name is Aaron Axelrod. I’m an artist. I’ve been meditating about two years.

Being a crazy, ADHD-ed out person, I was always looking for something to calm me down. Making art would do that, but right away when I’m not doing that, I’d get crazy, I’d get super anxious.

In middle school, grade school, I was force fed Ritalin, Adoral, for more than 10 years. I wouldn’t even want to take it. Every morning my mom would wake me up and be like, “Aaron, open your mouth!” and she’d just shove down Adoral, because I had such bad ADHD, ADD and she just wanted to calm me down. But Adoral is like speed. And it got to a point where it was kind of taking over my life.

I was always trying to find ways to calm down without using drugs. So I found out about TM – Transcendental Meditation – and it’s like medicine. It’s self-healing, it’s amazing. It’s definitely calmed me down. I found what I was looking for.

I think everybody should have some sort of meditation practice. It just balances you out and you learn how to deal with emotions, bad things, good things, things that get you angry. It really teaches you how to center yourself, strip you of your own ego, and deal with the world and yourself a little better. And the David Lynch Foundation is amazing, there should be a larger footprint throughout the world.

My life was a little weird, and it still is a little weird. I still have my ups and downs because I’m crazy like that, I still have that ADD, ADHD kind of thing, but it’s definitely helped a lot. It’s the only thing that’s helped.”
